Hot Work Steel
Hot Work Tool Steel is used for high and low pressure die casting, extrusion forging and plastic processing – high hot hardness, good high temperature toughness and resistance to heat checking are the most important factors in choosing this material.
1. Shape & range
Round Bar: diameter 8mm – 400mm
Steel Plate: thickness 16-500mm x width 200-800mm
Slab: thickness 200mm+ x width 200-800mm
2. Common Hot Work Tool Steel Grade: H13, H11, H21
H13 hot work steel is a chromium, molybdenum, vanadium hot works tool steel which is characterized by high hardenability and excellent toughness. The molybdenum and vanadium act as strengthening agents. The chromium content assists H13 grade steel to resist softening when used at high temperatures. H-13 hot works steels offers an excellent combination of shock and abrasion resistance, and possesses good red hardness. It is capable of withstanding rapid cooling and resists premature heat checking. H-13 tool steel has good machinability, good weldability, good ductility, and can be formed by conventional means.

4. Applications
Hot work tool steels are widely applied in the following uses:
- pressure die casting tools,
- extrusion tools,
- forging dies,
- hot shear blades,
- stamping dies,
- plastic molds.
- great for aluminum die-casting tools.
5. Hot Work Tool Steel Advantage
- Decrease in yield strength, therefore it is easier to work and uses less energy or force
- Increase in ductility
- Elevated temperatures increase diffusion which can remove or reduce chemical inhomogeneities
- Pores may reduce in size or close completely during deformation
- In steel, the weak, ductile, face-centered-cubic austenite microstructure is deformed instead of the strong body-centered-cubic ferrite microstructure found at lower temperatures
